City residents can pick up a recycling bin at the City Health Department Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. They must bring proof of payment of their current garbage bill.

If you live in the City of Hazleton you must, by law, recycle certain items including glass, newspapers, aluminum and steel and plastics.

With once a week collection, recycling is easier than ever! Here are some simple guidelines about the City of Hazleton’s recycling program.

Metal, Glass, and Plastic
These items can be commingled in your recycling bin:

Cans
Aluminum beverage cans and steel and tin food and beverage cans. Please rinse the can and remove the lid or push it into the can. There is no need to remove labels. No foil or food trays, please.

Glass
Food and beverage containers such as jars and bottles only! We accept clear, green or brown glass. Remove lids and rinse. Leave labels on. No light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, etc. Cans and glass may be mixed together in the same recycling container.

Plastic
#1 and #2 food and beverage containers and laundry product bottles. The number is on the bottom of the bottle. Most soda, milk and water bottles fit this category.

IMPORTANT – All recyclables may be combined in one container when separating from your regular garbage. All commingled recyclables (glass, plastic, and aluminum, steel, and tin cans) must be placed loose into recyclable containers provided by the city or a like container. Materials will not be collected if they are bagged.

Paper
Newspapers, including all the inserts that come with the newspaper, and magazines may be recycled. They must be tied in bundles or bagged with paper grocery bags and placed at the curb.
