The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 507 mans five stations throughout Hazleton with 18 dedicated men, protecting the lives and property of all city residents. In addition to these paid firefighters, the people of the City of Hazleton are also protected by more than 300 volunteer firefighters who play a vital role in the City's fire defense system.
Hazleton firefighters also conduct fire safety training with the city and maintain a municipal alarm system of street boxes.

Ask any child and they will tell you "Fireman Fred is the best." Why? He really connects with the children, gets on their level and gets the message across with participation of the whole class. Fireman Fred is Fred Polmounter a second generation fire service veteran. Fred teaches the importance of smoke detectors, conducts tours of the fire station, teaches how to get out safe, household exit drills, stop, drop and roll, and most importantly the dangers of fire.
