Citizens of Hazleton and surrounding communities can have an impact on the future of the area’s parks and recreation programs by completing a survey open now through Nov. 30.

The City of Hazleton tasked Barry Isett & Associates with studying existing recreational amenities and identifying needs and potential improvements.

“Recreation is a critical part of childhood,” said Hazleton Mayor Jeff Cusat. “Each child has different interests which lead to the happy and healthy habits developed in childhood that are carried over to adulthood.”

An important part of the process is the public survey, which allows community members to offer feedback through questions about local parks and recreation. Who uses the parks? What do they like and what do they think needs improvement? What are the needs of the community? What amenities are missing from parks that residents find attractive?

“The city wants to collect data on the things that are important to each individual and family, to enjoy the areas we have,” Cusat said.

The survey is available in English at www.surveymonkey.com/r/Hazleton_Park_Study and in Spanish at es.surveymonkey.com/r/Plan_Comprensivo_para_Parque_en_Hazleton.

Barry Isett & Associates will review responses and use the feedback, along with other research, to help develop recommendations to the City of Hazleton. Isett experts have experience with similar studies and municipal planning efforts across eastern and central Pennsylvania.
