Rental Property Heating Temperature and Heating Season


Adopting a Standard Heating Temperature and Heating Season for Rental Properties
in the City of Hazleton

BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED AND ENACTED by the Council of the City of Hazleton that every owner and operator of any building who rents, leases, or lets one or more dwelling units or sleeping units on terms, either expressed or implied, is required to furnish heat to the occupants thereof, and shall supply heat during the period October 1st through May 15th to maintain a minimum temperature of 68° fahrenheit (20° celsius) in all habitable rooms, bathrooms, and toilet rooms, in accordance with the 2012 International Property Maintenance Code, Chapter 6, Section 602.3 (Heat Supply).

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED AND ENACTED that any Ordinance or part of an Ordinance conflicting with the provisions of this Ordinance shall be and the same is hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED AND ENACTED that this Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon passage and approved in the manner prescribed by law.
